Logistics Coordinator Lea Salonen: I’ve Enjoyed Working at Nurminen for 21 Years
Lea Salonen works as a logistics coordinator in the Rail & Multimodal team at Nurminen Logistics. She is a logistics professional and a dedicated member of the Nurminen team, having been part of the team for 21 years!
From school straight to Nurminen
After graduating as a clothing technology engineer, Lea realized that the field wasn’t for her. She pursued further studies in Kouvola and graduated as a Bachelor of Business Administration specializing in Eastern Trade. Then she started her journey into the world of logistics.
“I joined Nurminen straight out of school in 2003, and I’m happy to still be here,” Lea shares.
Lea applied to Nurminen immediately after graduation. She describes the Finnish company with long history was an interesting employer right from the start. Because of this, Lea applied to the forwarding office in Kotka and was hired as a warehouse accountant for the terminal office!
Many roles and locations – what have 21 Years at Nurminen been like?
Over 21 years, Lea has seen and experienced a lot at Nurminen, with her career including various roles and locations. Advancing within the company according to her own interests has been important to her.
“I started in 2003 at the Mussalo terminal office in Kotka as a warehouse accountant. At the beginning of 2010, I moved to the Hamina forwarding office as a forwarder, where I worked for a few years before returning to the Kotka terminal office. Since 2022, I’ve been part of the Rail & Multimodal team, and I still enjoy it! Over the years, I’ve also helped at terminal offices in other locations, so there’s been plenty of variety,” Lea recounts her eventful career at Nurminen.
The role of a logistics coordinator includes diverse tasks. Currently, Lea primarily works with domestic rail traffic in Sweden, multimodal transport to Kazakhstan, and exports across Europe.
A positive work environment is key to well-being at work
According to Lea, the best aspects of working at Nurminen are the interesting tasks, positive work atmosphere, and great colleagues.
When asked how she would describe Nurminen as a workplace, she says, “If you don’t feel bad about coming back to work after summer vacation, I think that says a lot.” And it sure does!
Lea emphasizes that a good work environment is particularly important to her, and it has been a significant factor in why she has stayed at Nurminen for over 20 years. She considers herself fortunate because she genuinely enjoys her work.
“Over the years at Nurminen, I’ve had the opportunity to work with fantastic people and be part of multiple teams. Every team has been an absolute pleasure to work with,” Lea concludes.
